Photographer Shows the Cute Side of Pit Bulls

We love dogs, but some breeds get to carry the tag of being “too aggressive.” Pit Bulls are one breed that often get labeled as aggressive and dangerous, and often have to pay for this reputation. Several of these dogs end up in shelters, labeled as “bully breeds.” Photographer Douglas Sonders is on a PR mission to remove the unjust tag from 14 breeds, that include the Pit Bulls, French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers.

Finalists For 2014 Smithsonian Photo Contest

Smithsonian has announced finalists for its 11th Annual Photo Contest. The contest includes six categories, viz. The Natural World, Travel, People, Americana, Altered Images and Mobile. Ten images were selected from each of the categories as the finalists. The contest received more than 50,000 submissions from 132 countries. Winners of the contest will be announced on May 15. A Moment of Reflection by American photographer Cody William Smith is a project that deals with landscapes reflected in mirrors. It is landscape photography, with the exception that the mirror and the landscape it reflects becomes the center of attention. Mainly perhaps, because of the way the mirror presents an abrupt change to the landscape that the photograph is showing.

French photographer Jolipunk traveled to several places around the world, and came back with a photo series that shows locals flipping the bird. The inspiration for the series came from a desire to do the opposite of what his contemporaries do. So while others try to portray the lands they visit as exotic, Jolipunk decided to go the opposite way, and call the series Fucking Tourists.

However, several of these are now endangered as human settlement and climate change put pressure on their ecosystems. Of course, serious attempts are also being made to preserve these wonderful organisms.
