Looking somewhat realistic with a vibe of creepy, sculptures by Marie-Lou Desmeules are humans who have undergone surgery. The Quebec based artist calls this set “Painting Surgeries” to draw a parallel between painting and plastic surgery. Subjects are coated in paint, plastics and hair to give the impression of a sculpture, while moving to take the form of a different human.
We’d like to be brave, but it is impossible to deny that some of these are creepy, if not downright scary. The artist’s notion is to have viewers ponder on social realities and the notions of beauty. We guess that is why the sculpture of Pamela Anderson looks so damn much like a creepy caricature.
