We’ve long since given up hopes of seeing flying cars in the near future; the logistics simply don’t add up. But that doesn’t stop us from wishing to live in the classic vision of the future(flying cars, space travel, robots, sex with hottest women on the planet). Flynano isn’t a flying car, but the tiny aircraft does bring the idea of the fun of flight. Available in versions that may be powered by petrol or electricity, Flynano has a lightweight construction that makes liberal use of carbon fiber composites, and a top speed that may reach 140 kph. Displayed at the Aero 2011 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, designers hope to take the flyer into commercial production soon, with a price tag of €25,000 to €27,000 ($36.7k to $39.7k).

Aircraft engine gets printed out of a 3D printer
A team in Canada had a 3D printer do quite a lot of work, and came out with flying results. They used 3D CAD program Autodesk to print out and fabricate all moving parts of retro-style twin prop aircraft engine. Clearly, this isn’t a working engine, but their goal wasn’t to fabricate one either. The idea was to demonstrate how large precision parts could be quickly fabricated in a relatively inexpensive way. They used a printer made by Stratasys, which completed the job in 6 weeks at a cost of $25,000. The same process could take 9 months and $900,000, if done with conventional metal machining methods.

New ‘Stealth Paint’ can convert any aircraft into a stealth aircraft

Stealth aircrafts are painstakingly engineered to avoid the all-seeing eye of radars. An Israel-based company is now claiming that they have developed a paint that can make basically all flying objects difficult to detect via radars. The company, Nanoflight says that its new nano-paint can make flying objects like aircrafts, missiles and drones nearly invisible to radars.
Taranis semi-autonomous stealth unmanned aircraft unveiled

Taranis looks all futuristic and fearsome in the image above, like it should, because it is a semi-autonomous stealth unmanned aircraft. Unveiled by BAE Systems, this bad boy can quietly carry its dangerous payload into enemy territory without the need of a pilot, also, since it is semi-autonomous, the aircraft can do some of its thinking by itself.
