Busan Opera House

This design for the Busan Opera House is a submission by Barcelona based Sanzpont to the ongoing design contest for the opera house in Busan, South Korea. The form they say, is derived from the Korean philosophy of um-yang which, we assume is the cousin of yin-yang as the balance of opposites.

The idea seems to be the integration of modern design into conventional architecture, sustainability and harmony with the surrounding region. The building’s outer layer is translucent EFTE that works very well with the glow of multicolored LEDs located beneath the surface.

A green roof covers the top of the building while photovoltaic cells in the facade harvest energy from the sun. Area of the construction is divided into four plazas, one each for the elements of fire, earth, metal and water.
