LightBean by Katerina Kopytina

LightBean wooden suspension lamps by Russian designer Katerina Kopytina take a fairly elegant shape, depending on their colored suspension cables for the dash of glitter. The lamps are finished in a natural wood look, or black; the former in our opinion, has a more interesting look and style, though the black finish is by no means a slouch either. The expected commercial release of the lamps is set for November this year.

AT-SP Walker Steampunk Desk Lamp

AT-SP Walker, as its name suggests, takes inspiration from the AT-ST, gives it a good old Steampunk twist and has it ready to spread the light. All joints on the lamp are functional, and it can do a little bit of swaying, so we’re guessing it could double up as a very expensive toy too, apart from being a very expensive lamp. The lamp runs on 12V DC through a regular power jack socket. Costs $1250.

15 Minute Lamp Parlays With the Sands of Time

15 Minutes Lamp is a rather cool mix between an hourglass, a lamp, and something of a light dimmer. You can set time in increments of 15 minutes and doze off. Slowly, the sand begins to flow on the bulb and dim the light. After the set time, the bulb is covered in sand and the light cut off. The weight of the sand serves to automatically switch the lamp off as it goes dark. Designed by Hye Min Lee, Hye mi Lee and Sun Hwa Jung, the lamp was a winner at the 2013 IDEA Awards.

Moon Night Light

If it is night, it only makes sense that the room be lit up like the surroundings: in moonlight. Moon Night Light does that, well at least in terms of looks. The night light takes the shape of a full moon and has a five watt lamp ensconced in it. Currently available for pre-order at $4.46.

Geisha Lamps Play With Beauty

Geisha form a very interesting part of Japanese culture, marked by beauty, sensuality and grace. Designer Lorenza Bozzoli seeks to interpret the same grace into the Juuyo lamps. The name itself is derived from the predecessor of Geisha. Juuyo lamps are largely based on the wigs or the hairstyle Geisha are said to have adorned. The pendant lamps are available from Moooi in two designs, one showing peach blossoms, and the other depicting koi fish.

Screw Me

We have to admit we were mislead into believing that we would be looking at lamps. That’s just not what you expect to run into when you read “Screw Me.” The lamps by Jonathan Rowell make use of a screw like function to change their alignment and setting using the twists of the screw, but at the end of the day we feel like the name still overshadows the lamp. Oh hey, I think I’ll pay for a screw (me).

Vintage-Style Lamp Made From Reclaimed Materials

Vintage themed lamps and objects that artist Cory Barkman (previously) creates, come from a very elaborate process. The stunning design and the beautiful appearance are of course, a big part of the job, but the story of materials used in making these lamps is impressive in itself. Most of the objects used in the construction of these lamps are reclaimed mechanical parts from a scrap yard. Once the idea takes its shape, Cory looks for parts suitable for his lamps or forges a part if it cannot be found.

CMYK Bulb Spreads The Colors

CMYK bulb by designer Dennis Parren has a penchant for casting colorful shadows. It has one main a main bulb for the usual lighting purpose, and colored LEDs in red, green and blue on its back that cast shadows in cyan, magenta and yellow. While that setting alone could be quite the killer, the lamp also manages to work exceptionally well with shades added so you can manipulate the colors coming forth from the LEDs.

Designer Lamps Shine Submerged

Classic lightbulbs don’t mix with water, but they sure would look super cool if these images by AuraDesign are anything to go by. The Czech design studio has come up with a lightbulb named Edie, which is supposed to work when submerged. The idea of Edie is to mix two very important, but still separate universes of fire and liquid. The fire part of course, is handled by the incandescent light bulb, and the liquid could just as well be water. They have an Indiegogo campaign running to make the bulb a reality, where you could pre-order one as well.
