Spikey bench will take your money if you want to sit down

Thankfully, we’ve not come to a time where you’d have to pay money just to sit on a bench… yet. This bench, affectionately called “Pay & Sit: The Private Bench” by its creator Fabian Brunsing would need you to part with 0.50 Euros before it lets you rest your hinds on it. Put in the coin, and wait for the spikes to retract into the bench before you sit. But don’t get too relaxed, it also has a timer running, and will warn you with a sound sometime before the spikes come up again. God help us if the spike-mechanism malfunctions or someone fails to hear the warning sound. I’ll prefer sitting on the ground, thank you. Video after the jump.

Ville bike is designed especially for grocery shopping sprees

Driving to the grocery store, walking to the grocery store, pushing the shopping cart, carrying the bags to the car, driving back. Whoa people, that’s a whole lot of work right there, but have no fear because the world will be saved by the Ville shopping cart bike. The ingenious idea of mating a shopping cart and a bike comes from designer Hyuk Jae Chang and was the winner of a bronze at the Idea design awards.

MacBook Touch: The dual touchscreen MacBook concept

Speculation about a MacBook touch has been flying around for a while now, and designer Tommaso Gecchelin’s concept takes that a step further by endowing the MacBook Touch with dual touchscreens. The concept makes use of flexible OLED technology, what the designer calls iSpine. Similar to the spine of a book, the iSpine allows the MacBook’s screen to be flexible, and to some extent, foldable.

Hindenburg inspired airship concept to be a mobile five star hotel for the skies

Whatever the fate of the Hindenburg may have been, the opulent airship still serves as a benchmark for those designing airships. The Airship Traveling concept by designer Thomas Rodemeier gets its inspiration, in part, from the Hindenburg. Airship Traveling concept visualizes a mobile five star hotel filled with opulence, flexibility and grace.

Photosynthetic concept car literally runs on the power of plants

Researchers have been trying to find a practical way of using photosynthesis in plants as an energy source for long, but the efforts have not yielded any great results as of now. Untied by the limitations of pragmatism, designers Michal Vlcek and Klavir have designed a car we will have no trouble appreciating. The photosynthetic concept car is full of plants, and it is these plants that provide the requisite energy to move the vehicle.

Shadow Hawk armored vehicle concept lifts itself four feet off the ground

Shadow Hawk concept is an armored vehicle waiting to go into production. Its side-profile, minus the tires reminds us of the Humvee, and though the face isn’t exactly pretty, it is still acceptable because this is an armored car after all. Claim to fame for the Hawk is its ability to raise or lower each wheel by up to 46 inches, allowing it to pass obstacles.

Chinese students create a Transformer using an old truck

The giant, 32-feet Transformer created by students at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in China isn’t likely to star in one of Michael Bay’s movies, but with the huge sword and helmet, the 4 tons structure could find work in some video game. Leaving out the sword and a few parts of the face, most of this Transformer is made out of an old truck. The entire project cost somewhere around $4,470 and is likely based on the ancient Chinese hero Guan Gong. Video and image gallery after the jump.

Seraphim Custom bike has more jewelry than a princess

Seraphim Custom motorcycle concept looks all golden and intricately embroidered as if it were wearing a boatload of jewelry, perhaps to challenge some medieval princess. That said, the bike has a nice stance and good looks, plus, the seat is inspired by saddles, and fits well with the design. Considering designer Mikael Lugnegård rendered this in just four hours, the design looks way sweeter.
