Blue Pond seems to be quite a misnomer for name of a pond that prides itself in changing colors with seasons. That nitpicking doesn’t quite change the fact that this is quite a beautiful place. Located in the town of Biei in Hokkaido, Japan, the pond can change color from an emerald green to a bright blue.
Apparently, the water in the pond has a high amount of Aluminum Hydroxide which reflects blue light, and depending on the angle of light can often shift the appearance towards green. These images of the pond have been captured by photographer Kent Shiraishi, who calls it the “most beautiful pond in the world.”
