Magnificent Video of Massive Solar Eruption

The sun is huge when compared to the little blue dot in space we call Earth. Solar eruptions can easily be massive beyond the scale and volume of the earth, as these images and the video show. NASA calls it a “long filament of solar material” that was shot out of the sun at more than 900 miles per second.
Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the images and video during an intense solar storm on August 31. The filament is around 300,000 kilometers across, which is roughly equal to around 30 earths across. Hit ahead for more images taken at varying frequencies and wavelengths, and the video.
