Microsoft announces Age of Empires Online, currently in beta
One of the best RTS games of all time, Age of Empires is set to make a comeback. In its rebirth, the game has been given more of a social-networking twist, which is to say that you will have the option of undertaking quests with friends. Age of Empires Online is currently in beta that is open for people in North America and Europe. Revival of AoE alone should be enough to have us jumping with excitement, but something seems to be a little off.
From what we read, we see a lot about FarmVille on AoE Online. While FarmVille is a huge success in the social gaming sphere, AoE and FarmVille have little to nothing in common. Somehow, there appear to be endless loops for signup, plus there’s a requirement for Games for Windows – LIVE gamertag or an Xbox LIVE gamertag with a Silver or Gold account. Also, you’ll need to be approved before you actually start playing the game. With the initial excitement over, now I’m just worried that the good name of AoE is about to be dragged through the mud. I really hope it isn’t so.
