Life saving Bazooka gets hold of the Dyson Award

Winner of this year’s Dyson Award is a bazooka. This isn’t a conventional bazooka though, there’s no blasting involved, and it could very well be a life saver. Created by Australian designer Samuel Adeloju, the bazooka/LONGREACH Buoyancy Deployment System can come in handy for saving someone at the risk of drowning. The bazooka shoots an emergency buoyancy aid up to 150 meters into the sea. As the shell comes into contact with water, its hydrophobic foam rapidly expands to 40 times its size in just 15 seconds. The buoyancy aid is compact enough for easy storage, and the bazooka is equipped with flares to aid operation at night or in poor lighting. The designer has been awarded £10,000 ($15,900) and the same amount will also be given to his engineering faculty at the University of New South Wales.
