When photographing miniatures, keeping them alongside coins is a common practice to give the viewer a sense of scale. As we see here, the same sense of scale can easily be exploited with the use of unusually humongous coins. The trick is fairly simple, giant coins together with the miniaturization effects of tilt-shift photography make large objects appear tiny. The project is named “Big Money” and the coin they use is a 20:1 scale replica of the 50 cent Euro coin. The series is the work of Norwegian art collective Skrekkøgle, whom we just saw with the Solitaire sculpture.
