Light Goes On: Light Painting in Stop Motion Animation

Photographer Darren Pearson (previously) shot this stop motion animation of a light painted skateboard skeleton over several places in San Diego. We have to appreciate the skills, mixing stop motion animation with light painting is no easy job, hell, they aren’t easy individually either.

Light Painting Photography Inside an Italian Marble Mine

The world under the ground is a uniquely interesting place, views of which are quite otherworldly for us. Combining the eerie views of the underground with light photography, this series provides an interesting visual journey. Photographer Stefano Bellamoli chose the marble mines of Verona, Italy for the setting of these photographs. White marble mines they may be, but they do happen to be all dark. Illumination you see in these pictures all comes from the tungsten and fluorescent light source used in the light painting.

Breakdance Light Painting

Polish photographer Joanna Jaskólska creates a mix of break dance and light painting in these photographs. The light painting of course follows the motion of a dancer to create something like a wave, while the dancer eventually appears at a single position.

Ghosts seen, captured in light paintings

The ghostly figures floating in these photos aren’t supernatural, they are the result of well executed light paintings. Croix Gagnon and Frank Schott started off their project 12:31 which made use of a laptop and a video showing the cross section of the human body for light painting. In creating these photographs, the animation ran full screen on a computer and an assistant moved it around in a dark environment, ultimately leading to these spooky long-exposure shots. More images and the video of the animation after the jump.
