You could have your very own band or orchestra at your beck and call, housed comfortably in an elegant handcrafted oak cabinet. The self-contained Hootenanny, apart from having a lovely name, also houses 17 musical instruments. Let’s go back a bit, Hootenanny… that’s a great word, and I’m going to try to sneak it into conversations all week. That, and bamboozled, because it’s cool.
German photographer Thomas Herbrich setup a high speed camera to capture images of smoke emanating from a cigarette. The cigarette was placed on a tripod, and the camera set to capture at 1/10,000 frames per second. As the smoke from the cigarette traveled through the air, the camera captured shots, showing the smoke forming various shapes in the air.
A simple change in perspective goes a long way. As these photographs by Anelia Loubser show, humans can turn into aliens with just simple shift of perspective. The Cape Town based photographer selectively cropped and flipped images to create this fantastic series called Alienation.
There is paper cut art, and there is mind-blowingly intricate paper cut art that we are sure is held together by magic. The intricacy and detail are both astounding, and a testament to the patience and skill of artist Maude White.
This is so totally cool! Han and Leia in the Up universe. Well, Carl and Ellie did want to be adventurers and explore whole new worlds, maybe they would find time for that in the Star Wars universe. The illustration is the work of artist James Hance and is available as a print for $15.
Whisper by Damien Kazan is a short film that shows the power of dreams and their volatility. The film is about a 10 year old kid and his dream. The short might focus on just one kid, but the message is almost universal. What happens when your childhood dream gets a setback? Is it worth braving the odds?
The Bankers Lamp – Revisited is probably what all bankers lamps dream of becoming one day. A creation of Cory Barkman (previously), the lamp follows the style of the artist, that is, an old world look that is somewhat steampunk-ish, but mostly elegant, stylish, and functional.
‘Rob the Original’ is an artist with the scissor, and your hair, and your head. Not everyone can sport a portrait on their head, but if you can, Rob is the guy for you. While you get your haircut, Rob will craft a very detailed portrait on your head, with your very own hair. If you would like something more colorful, like patterns, that’s also a yes.
Dogs do often look like their owners, or at least have a touch of the human in them. It’s difficult to say the same about cats, them preferring to stay aloof and with little to go by way of comparison. All that’s missing is perhaps a good look at the cats, and the magic touch of image manipulation.
