Nobody can ever accuse Batman for a lack of style; that part comes with being a ninja, and being the freakin’ Batman. A hot rod is fun to drive every once in a while, so it kind of makes sense for billionaire Bruce Wayne Batman have one to enjoy. Even if the wing on top of the car is going to suck, the concept renderings by Mark La Frenais is totally cool.
LightBean wooden suspension lamps by Russian designer Katerina Kopytina take a fairly elegant shape, depending on their colored suspension cables for the dash of glitter. The lamps are finished in a natural wood look, or black; the former in our opinion, has a more interesting look and style, though the black finish is by no means a slouch either. The expected commercial release of the lamps is set for November this year.
A new bridge in China sits high above the Earth. At 800 meters (2635 feet) above ground, the new bridge can often give travelers the experience of walking above the clouds. The 1500 meters long suspended footpath has been built on the Jinfo Mountain, the highest peak in Dalou Mountains.
Company at dinner used to be a good time for people to know each other, bond or just talk. Then came around the smartphone, and effectively destroyed every dinner conversation etiquette ever. We won’t give up our smartphones during meals even knowing fully well what must be done, but perhaps a tablecloth ordering us to do that could make a difference.
Pingtan island is located off the coast of China towards Taiwan. It is near this island that a new floating museum is proposed. The floating art museum designed by MAD Architects would sit on a man-made island, covering an area of 130,000 square feet. Taking a dune-like form, the artificial island will be accessible from the mainland through a narrow undulating bridge.
Magnetic levitation is quite an idea. Mix it up with furniture, and you’ve got some real lookers on there. There is just one big problem with most of the magnetic levitation themed tables we have seen: there’s nothing to keep them in place. The last thing anyone probably wants is to bump into the table and see it flying off. A better approach to the idea is what makes us appreciate the Float Table.
ItalDesign‘s Parcour Concept for Giugiaro breathes in the air of supercars and sports cars to take on a form that is instantly recognizable and happens to be one hell of a look. Parcour, while keeping the general looks of a sports car, sits comfortably above the ground, allowing it to show its mettle in off road conditions as well.
If you love typography, you breathe typography, you eat typography, and apparently you sculpt typography. Lithuania-based visual communication studio PRIM PRIM compared fonts to food, and just for good measure made paper sculptures of the food they were talking of, because why not? And it adds layers of cool to everything.
Whoever said solar power can’t be sexy, would be wrong, very wrong as this Pure Tension Pavilion in Rome shows. Granted, it could have a better name, but lets stick to the form and function. Made by agency SDA for Volvo Italy, the pavilion shows the hybrid V60 harbored under a sweet looking pavilion. It’s job is not just to sit there looking good, the pavilion’s lightweight tensioned membrane is made form an HDPE Mesh skin embedded with photo-voltaic panels that suck in the rays of the sun to charge up the vehicle.
15 Minutes Lamp is a rather cool mix between an hourglass, a lamp, and something of a light dimmer. You can set time in increments of 15 minutes and doze off. Slowly, the sand begins to flow on the bulb and dim the light. After the set time, the bulb is covered in sand and the light cut off. The weight of the sand serves to automatically switch the lamp off as it goes dark. Designed by Hye Min Lee, Hye mi Lee and Sun Hwa Jung, the lamp was a winner at the 2013 IDEA Awards.
