These fantastic photographs have been captured at various locations in the Maniwa and Okayama Prefectures in Japan between 2008 and 2011. The genius of these photographs lies in the simplicity and the beauty they capture. Captured using a slow shutter speed camera, the images show gold fireflies mating after thunderstorms during June-July.

We’re not sure if there is something like insects being non-ugly, because we could swear those critters are so totally fugly. But the magic of photography is so keen to prove otherwise.
