Religion always has, and continues to play a markedly important role in our lives. It’s influence has not only been spiritual and social, but to quite a great extent, martial as well. These sculptures by artist Al Farrow represent places of worship built out of ammunition and weapons. Morbid as it may be, the work brings out the connection between religion and war that seems so very entangled.

Caverns Carved Into Books

Artist Guy Laramee (previously) carves the intricate, some might even say mysterious, caverns into volumes of books. Whatever mysteries these caverns might hold, we’re just happy there seems to be a light at the end of every tunnel. For his style, and even for a bit of inspiration, Laramee looks back to the literary classic “Journey to the Center of the Earth.”

Futuristic Mega Cities Assembled for ‘The Silent City’

‘The Silent City’ by Chinese artist Yang Yongliang illustrates the devastating effects crude and uncontrolled urbanisation and industrialisation can have. This set gives an impression of a beautiful landscape and a cityscape, only upon closer inspection you find that things have been choked with buildings, factories, machinery and other aspects of modern industrialization. It’s bright, some might say even lively, but it just doesn’t feel like the way things are supposed to be.
