In illustrations of Diego Mazzeo, animals turn robotic in a very mechanical kind of way. Seeing all the gears and cogs, there is always a temptation to stick ’em with the Steampunk label, but they could as easily be dieselpunk or some other form. So let’s just say these are sweet mechanical animals.

A master woodworker and carpenter, Valerii Danevych has the skill in his blood. Coming from a long line of cabinet workers, Danevych certainly would be comfortable around lumber. He felt a need to challenge himself and push his skill, to that end he started studying watchmaking. Starting with his first watch in 2005, Danevych completed it after three years, with the result being a completely functional watch made solely out of wood.

Artist Jeffrey Veregge is a member of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and spent most of his time on his reservation locally known as Little Boston, and located near Kingston, Washington. The artist graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle where (among other things) he studied traditional coastal Salish art. Combining the traditional art of Native Americans with his own interest and geeky love for comic books, Jeffrey created these illustrations of superheroes styled in traditional Native American art.

While we wait for BBC’s Sherlock to be back on the air, there isn’t much to do besides the hopes that it will air soon. Artist Alice XZ has created a set of oil paint portraits of characters from the series. They’re good, and just something little to enjoy till the show returns for its next season.

Artist Casey Robin has created a lovely, super cute set of illustrations inspired by the Harry Potter series. The cuteness is perhaps in the simplicity of appearance, or the children’s storybook type style. We can’t really say what it is, but they’re quite bright and adorable. Going through a very flipbook animation-like style, Quasi Cinema by artist Lucas Simões employs folded photographs stitched together in the form of a wave. As you walk along the wall with the portraits, you get the feel of seeing an animation slowly unfold. Too bad there is no video for us to clearly see what these folded photograph film frames would actually work like, but it looks pretty cool for the imagination. Plus, we can always picture it working something like this.

Canadian artist Jobe Brown works with paper to create what he calls 3D Origami. His creations include several popular characters from a wide interest range. There are quite a few Pokemon in the set, Hedwig makes an appearance with the golden snitch, but we are particularly fond of the cute Iron Man you see at top.
