Porsche Tries to Pull a Tesla with the All-Electric Mission E Concept

Tesla is pretty much the king in the world of all-electric cars that offer a killer performance. It’s only natural that the reigning monarch be challenged, and Porsche apparently intends to do that with the Mission E Concept.

The strikingly handsome and (stereotypically) futuristic design presents a solid first impression for the Mission E. The sportscar concept builds on its impressive appearance and technology with features like holographic displays, OLED displays, gesture controls, and even authorized digital keys that let you set time and permissions for friends and family members. That last one is quite a nice touch and I can see it being useful in plenty of situations.

Mission E doesn’t just intend to skate-by on its looks. It packs quite a performance to take on its nemesis – the formidable Tesla Model S. Its 800-Volt electric drive gives the car 600 horses under the hood. The car can travel 300 miles on a single charge, and quite impressively, it can charge to 80% in just 15 minutes. Porsche is calling this very useful technology the “Porsche Turbo Charging System.”

Mission E is equally impressive in acceleration and speed. The car goes zero to 60mph in under 3.5 seconds and hits on 124mph in under 12 seconds.

It will be a while before the concept finally finds its wheels on the road of mass production, but if there ever was a concept worthy of seeing the light, this is it.

  1. It’s a sheer elegance and power bonanza with zero emission. If Porsche ever make mind to manufacture electric car, this concept deserves to see the light of the day.
