MRI Scans of Vegetables

Horned Melon

Veggies don’t get enough love. On the other hand, one can hardly complain about that, seeing the way they look on the insides. It’s not bad, it’s just… a bit discomforting. Of course, if we push ourselves out of the meaningless prejudice, we realize it’s really cool.

Andy Ellison is an MRI technologist who spends time on his job scanning human brains. One day, Andy used an orange while testing the machine settings. Impressed by the visual result, the technologist started bringing in produce to work, and scanned them using the MRI machine. The animation you see in the images, is as layer after layer is imaged, and the photographs put together in sequence.
