Pingtan island is located off the coast of China towards Taiwan. It is near this island that a new floating museum is proposed. The floating art museum designed by MAD Architects would sit on a man-made island, covering an area of 130,000 square feet. Taking a dune-like form, the artificial island will be accessible from the mainland through a narrow undulating bridge.

It is planned for the museum to host 1,000 of Chinese treasures alongside modern works of art. The island will work as a museum, and will also form the city center for the planned city of Pingtan. It is also expected that the island will become a major destination between China and Taiwan, providing a resource for trade and cultural communication.
