It’s a strange story, of a man who thinks he is a penguin. Alfred David is a 79 years old living in Brussels, but people know him better as Monsieur Pingouin or Mr. Penguin. It was a life changing accident in 1968 that gave Alfred David a limp, but his friends decided it was more like a waddle and jokingly started referring to him as the penguin. David apparently took the joke seriously and took something of an obsession with the flightless bird.
Soon, he started wearing penguin costumes and started collecting penguin related items, eventually collecting more than 3500 items over time. Eventually people started taking “note” of him, and he became known as Mr. Penguin in the neighborhood. However, when he put the idea of changing his name to Mr. Penguin in front of his wife, she sent him and his penguin stuff packing.
Alfred has gained quite some recognition for his penguin obsession, including a few cameos in TV and movies. He believes he will be reincarnated as a penguin, either in a zoo or in Antarctica. When he dies, he wishes to be buried in Antarctica, in his penguin suit.
