NETwork is embroidery transformed into furniture

NETwork from Studio Aisslinger is the transformation of 2-dimensional embroidery into pop-up furniture. Traditional stitching techniques are mated with modern technology to create embroidery you can use as furniture.

Creating these armchairs, stools and lamps, first requires the objects to be transformed into 2d projections of themselves. This is accomplished by a software. These projections are then fed to machines that pattern them on a surface, creating a 3d object. Three dimensional embroidery so created is then added to fiberglass mould and impregranted with resin to form the complete, usable object. Studio Aisslinger displayed NETwork at Milan 2010.
