A couple of years ago, Japan built itself a Gundam. Well, just an inanimate life size replica that could do a bit of maneuvering, much unlike the real Gundam. Apparently, leaders from Japan’s not so liberal Liberal Democratic Party are thinking of building Gundam, mechas that could possibly be used by the country’s defense establishment.

hey’re using the term quite generically, they don’t intend to build the real deal, just mechas that could pass off as real badass robots. In 2008, it was estimated that making a real life Gundam would costs about $725,000,000 for parts and materials alone, not including the cost of labor and expertise that would go into such a project.
