Artificial Tongue Likes Canned Tomato, Differentiates Between 18 Types

In an apparent quest to develop culture, robots are now developing a sense of taste. They are starting small, tasting tomato juice, but we guess that might be a big step. Scientists in Italy have developed robot “magnetic tongues” that use nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) to identify the characteristics of food.

These bot tongues can distinguish bitterness, saltiness, “redness” and density, thus marking important characteristics of food and the capability to identify 18 different types. Snobbish wine tasting robots will follow, after the monocle wearing bots come around.
